Fish out of water
Good book
I have been reading this book for the past month, making slow but steady progress and finally reaching the ending few pages of the book. Unlike other self help books which has a lot of talking and telling, this one makes good use of a lot of example scenarios and stories of other people who have made it back striking out on the direction that they choose and trusting in themselves. The inspirational words inside are always applied in the scenarios presented, which kind of works for me because I’m a “show me” and not “tell me” person.
The last part of the book described the author herself. About her family background, about the encounters she had in her life with people. It was not easy for her, and she went through a journey of healing and recovery and merge with better sense of self and confidence that ordinary people could not experience.
I always think that all things happen in life for a reason, and that there are no good or bad things. Those like us who had been through more, betrayal, suicidal attempts, sexual abuse, broken family, etc. often grow up feeling different from others, grow up thinking more out of life that others deem unnecessary. We might at first lament on why these things has to happen on us and not other people. But that’s exactly the question we need to ask : Why it has to happen on us and not other people? This time, ask it the right way, and follow with more questions : Are they there to give us more of life’s experiences so that we can propel further? Are they there to offer opportunity to build character to support whatever future journeys that we would undertake? If yes, what is it that we are suppose to learn from those incidents?
